Obituary Overview
ALAN DUPUIS
Alan Lester Dupuis
May 4, 1940 – September 12, 2025
Alan Lester Dupuis—known to many as “Al,” and affectionately as “Pete” by close family and longtime friends—passed away suddenly after a brief post-operative battle at Windsor Regional Hospital (Ouellette Campus, CCU) on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the age of 85.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Carolyne (2019), and by his parents, Vina (2001) and Leo (1973) Dupuis.
Al leaves behind his loving children:
Deborah (Brad), Jennifer (Chris), Melissa (Craig), and Todd (Cheryl).
He was a cherished grandfather to:
Joshua (Melanie), Jenna Lynn (Carter), and Jaden Ann (Caleb),
and a proud great-grandfather to:
Halle Rae, Austin Joshua, and Miller Martin.
He is also survived by his dear sister, Janet Lassaline (the late Al, 2021); niece, Vickie Lassaline; nephew, Ron Lassaline (Kim); and many cousins and lifelong friends.
Al dedicated his life to service—first to his family, and second to the fire service community. His passion for firefighting began early, volunteering at just 14 years old with the Anderdon Township Fire Department. What followed was a remarkable 40-year career that spanned roles as a Sandwich West and Windsor Firefighter, culminating in his appointment as Chief of the Fire Services Division for the Province of Ontario.
Al's impact went far beyond his local community. He was instrumental in advancing fire service methods internationally—helping lead the transition from imperial to metric systems, and pioneering life-saving auto extrication techniques. Even after his early retirement more than 30 years ago, he continued to serve as a respected Fire Plan Consultant, always remaining a "helper of the people"—steady, humble, and generous with his time and knowledge.
Outside of his professional life, Al was a man of many passions. He enjoyed a good game of golf, a lively card table, and cooking for family and friends. His homemade specialties—pea soup, corned beef sandwiches, rice pilaf, and shrimp Vesuvio—were legendary. He and Carolyne embraced retirement together, building their dream home by the water in Stoney Point and spending winters in the Florida sunshine.
Al will be remembered for his unwavering devotion, generous heart, and the lasting legacy of love, laughter, and service he leaves behind.
As per his wishes, cremation has taken place.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at a later date.
