It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Barry, surrounded by family, on March 19, 2026. 

Predeceased by his beloved wife Lorraine (2024). Proud and loving father of David (Dana), Jamie (Laura), Kristyn (Sean) Sexsmith, and Robert (Diane). Devoted Papa of Jude, Sienna, Neil, Kaitlyn, Ava, Zoey, and Jakob. 

He will be greatly missed by his extended family, and so many dear friends. 

Barry was a much loved and dedicated teacher and coach for 33 years at Essex District High School, setting an exceptional example for all of his students, providing his expertise from his outstanding career in basketball, football and track and field at Forster, University of Windsor and McMaster. Wherever he went, he found someone he knew, whether it was someone he played with, taught, coached, or met through his children and grandchildren. He was forever making connections with those around him and his ultimate goal was to make everyone else happy.  However, his greatest joy was his grandchildren, and he always proudly followed and told everyone who would listen of their accomplishments. He loved fishing, spending time on his boat, 'snowbirding' in Cocoa Beach, and building and fixing things around the home. To know him was to love him.

We are incredibly grateful to Windsor-Essex EMT and the Windsor Fire Department for their rapid response. The nurses, doctors, and RRT's at WRH-Met Campus ICU provided compassionate care to Barry in his final days.

All are welcome to join Barry's family and friends for a celebration of his life on Sunday, March 29, 12p.m.-5p.m., at Riverside Sportsmen Club, 10835 Riverside Dr. E.

His regular seat at the Toldo Lancer Centre will be dedicated in his honour.
