Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on April 23, 2026, at the age of 75. Predeceased by his father, Aubert ‘Pete’ Maurice (2006), his mothers Angeline Maurice (1970) and Vivian Maurice (2020), and his brother, Victor Maurice (2022). Berny is survived by a large family that loved him very much. Cherished brother of Carmen & Connie Maurice and Angela Bastien (Rick, 2009) & Bob Schmidt. Proud uncle of Chuck, Donna, Julie & Rod, Danielle & Sean, Jaclyn & Steve, Rachelle & Rob, Peter & Amanda, Renee & Corey, Jaimie & Chris and Jenn & Ryan. Likewise, he is survived by many great-nieces & great-nephews. Berny was also loved by numerous dear friends who became an extension of his family. Berny always lived his life to the fullest and on his own terms. He enjoyed many years in the mountains of Lake Louise, Alberta, and most recently split his retirement between Leesburg, Florida, and his cottage on Musky Bay in St. Charles, Ontario. Berny was always willing to team up for a game of euchre and enjoyed nothing more than sipping a tea and Bailey’s on his porch overlooking the lake with family and friends. He will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his passion for good food, and the joy he found in golf and fishing. The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to the ICU Doctors and Nurses at Windsor Regional Hospital, Ouellette Campus. Specifically, the compassion shown from Lexi, Mary, Alissa, and Luisa, which made a difficult time much more bearable. In lieu of flowers, Berny would have appreciated that you instead extend an act of kindness to a stranger or reach out and connect with someone you love. In keeping with Berny’s wishes, cremation has taken place via Simple Choice, Dougall. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 17th, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 594, 5030 Howard Ave, Oldcastle, ON. Please join family and friends for dinner, starting at 4:30, while we share memories and celebrate a life well-lived. Children are welcome and dress casual because that's the way Berny would have wanted it.
