"It is with profound love and sadness that we announce the passing of Daniel Keith Poehlman, 71, of Chatham, ON, on July 5, 2026. Born in Chatham, ON, July 19, 1954. Dan spent his life making the world a brighter place.

Dan passed away in the arms of the love of his life, Shelley (Seney) and surrounded by loved ones.

Before his passing, he said “I lived my life the best I could, and loved my wife the best I could”. Amazingly, Dan woke up from heavy sedation to tell Shelley “I love you; don’t cry”.

Deeply missed by his baby girl Danielle, who stuck by him through every journey of his life.

Dan’s battle with Leukemia lasted eight months, of which eighteen weeks were in Windsor Regional Hospital with his wife and daughter by his side. Many thanks to the medical teams who provided excellent support and care.

To those who knew him, he was a gentle man with a big heart, known for his great hugs and willingness to help.

Dan’s sense of humour was immense. Before his passing, one doctor asked if he could examine Dan. Dan said, “Why are you asking me for permission to do your job?” The room broke out in laughter. The Doctor said, “Some people don’t want me to touch them.” Dan said, “Well, then, that would make it hard for you to do your job”. Laughter again.

Dan started his career as an automotive mechanic at the age of 17, working for Labombards, and finished his career at his shop, Central Automotive. He loved working in his automotive shop, where he could fix absolutely anything.

Dan is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Shelley; his son Matthew (Claire); grandsons Barrett and Koen, daughter Danielle Vanroboys (Aaron); his beloved grandchildren, Ava and Drake; and his siblings David Poehlman, (Louise) John Poehlman (Barbara), Carolyn Faubert (Greg, predeceased 2016), Jennifer Scherle (Paul), Aunt Shirley Wilson, and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was predeceased by his mother, Jean Poehlman-Pelfrey (2015), father, Keith Poehlman (1987), and step-father, Roy Pelfrey (2003)

Special thanks to Sandy and Bethie, John and Evelyn, Bill and Pam, Mark and Krista, John and Barb, Marion, Stephanie and Jamie, Rick and Grace, Shirley and Barry, Sandra and Tom, Jen and Rory, Julie and Marv, Sherri and Dale, Kathy and Lonnie and Lee and Lori for taking care of Dan’s kitties and many others for their help through this difficult journey.

Dan leaves behind a legacy of laughter, wisdom, and deep kindness. A celebration of his vibrant life will be held at a future date.
