Obituary Overview

David George Lewis

June 12, 1951 - May 31, 2026

Dave passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was predeceased by his loving parents Ethel and (Isaac) Lloyd Lewis.

Dave shared 44 years of love and marriage with his dear wife April, and was the beloved father of Jocelyn Van Hende (Richard) and Mandy Lewis (Kyle Jamison).

Dave delighted in his role as grandfather to Arthur, Ezekiel, Maverick and Felix Van Hende.

He is survived by his siblings Penny Buist (Alan), Beth Lewis (Bill Stuart) and Eric Lewis (Pat Boon), and sister-in-law Lisa.

Dave was a loving uncle to Erin, Michael, Kaley, Justin, Kyle, Alysa, Astrid, and Jon, and great-uncle to Tayla, Alexis, Beatrix and Edie.

Dave took pride in his career as a manager in jewellery sales, which he did successfully for almost 40 years. He had a gift for remembering his customers, and was known for being a hard working, responsible and effective salesman.

His faith was an essential part of his life, which was seen in his deep love for the bible and how he shared scripture to encourage others. Dave highly valued prayer and was part of many prayer groups over the years, including leading a weekly soaking prayer meeting for several years. Dave was a member of Wellspring Community Church in Welland for nearly 40 years. More recently, Dave called Grace Ministries in Windsor his home church. In his years of church involvement he could be found leading youth and men, serving as an usher, and organizing family trips to places like a maple sugarbush and Canada’s Wonderland.

As seen in his vocational and church roles, people and hospitality were very important to Dave. He had a heart for the overlooked and showed his love through food and cooking. Dave would cook weekly for some groups, knowing that his meals would be tastier and more cost effective than any take out restaurant. He was not intimidated by cooking for large groups of people and enjoyed cooking for events and parties.

Not only was Dave a master chef, he also provided excellent entertainment. Dave loved children and delighted in entertaining them with magic tricks, silly jokes and games. He was known as someone who brought a strong spirit of positivity and affirmation to others, and had an encouraging word in every situation. Dave was incredibly empathetic towards the challenges that other people faced and credited his mother with teaching him how to be hospitable and respectful to all.

Dave loved to travel and would often share stories of his hitchhiking adventures as a young adult throughout Europe, the United States, and Canada. He grew up taking long road trips with his family and thought nothing of lengthy drives to visit people or attend functions with those he loved. He fondly shared stories of the summers his family spent at the cottage together. In his lifetime, Dave planned many camping trips for friends and family alike. He believed that gathering together to have fun was worth the effort it took.

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. - Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT

What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?

So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.

Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”

You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror. How foolish! Can’t you see that faith without good deeds is useless? - James 2:14-20
