FERGUSON, Donald Frederick
1942-2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Donald Frederick Ferguson, on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, at the age of 83.

Don was a loving husband to Hélène for over 40 years, a proud and devoted father to Nicole (Nikki) and Christopher, and a cherished "Papa" to five adoring grandchildren.

 
A loyal federal public servant of 30 years, Don brought leadership and perseverance to important initiatives, including the remediation of the Sydney Tar Ponds and Coke Ovens toxic waste sites, which saw the sites turned into a safe and clean park for the community.

Don is survived by his wife Hélène, his children Nicole (Sean Maharaj) and Christopher (Jennifer Hodgins), his sister Gail (Robert Alebon), and his grandchildren Alexa, Gavin, Molly, Jake, and Chloe, who brought immense joy to his life. Don’s memory will always be remembered by his niece, extended family, and friends.

Though we mourn his loss, we are thankful for the time we shared and the memories we hold.

A celebration of Don’s life will be held in the spring of 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Diabetes Canada, a cause close to his heart.
