It is with sadness that we announce that Dwayne Michael Joseph Clarke, age 53, born October 23, 1972, in Stephenville, Newfoundland, passed away peacefully, July 20, 2026, in the palliative care unit of St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Ontario.
Dwayne is survived by his mother Sheila (MacKenzie) Clarke and her partner Silvano Sergas, his sister Sandra (Alvin) Lee, Scarborough, ON, and his brother Eric Shane (Jennifer) Clarke, Southampton, N.S. Dwayne was an uncle to Kyle Yong, Christie Lee, Ryan Lee, and Ethan Clarke. Dwayne loved them dearly and was very proud of each of them. Dwayne was a nephew of Mary (Vicente) Ramirez, Brampton, ON, and Laure Bossence, Chatham, ON. Dwayne was a cousin to Brennan (Sandy) Brampton ON; Selina, Brampton, ON; Erin (George) Innisfil, ON; Meghan (Matt), (England) ; William (Jenn), Chatham, ON; Neil (Brittany) Ridgetown, ON; and John (Melanie) Germany and their families. When the cousins were little, Dwayne loved to entertain them with snacks, music, and movies, and Dwayne missed that as they got older.
Dwayne loved family and had a passion to help people. Cooking for others made him so happy. Dwaynes signature dish was, lasagna, which he made for every birthday. Dwayne really enjoyed cooking and through the years worked as a pastry chef, baker, line cook, and chef in many restaurants and trained others. Dwayne cooked and baked in summer camps in Quebec where he cooked for 300 or more and when Silvano and I visited the camp he made bread for Silvano.
Dwayne’s desire to help others led him to take a 2 year course in Sheridan College, Oakville, and Dwayne graduated in Dec 2012 with a certificate as a Social Service Worker - Gerontology.
Dwayne was predeceased by his father Eric Gordon Clarke and all of his Clarke uncles and aunts: Victor, Ray, Fred, Sadie, Bessie, Dolores, and Mary all from Newfoundland. Dwayne is survived by his aunts on his father’s side Ethel Clarke (Victor) and Beryl Clarke (Fred), and many Clarke cousins, who are too numerous to mention.
Dwayne’s memory will live on through his family, whose lives have been enriched by his unwavering love and support.
A celebration of Life for Dwayne will be held Friday August 7th, 2026 from 2-6 pm at The Royal Canadian Legion, Todmorden, Branch 10, 1083 Pape Ave, East York M4K-3W7. Dwayne will be cremated, and his ashes will rest with his grandmother Selina MacKenzie at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations can be made to St Michael’s Hospital in Dwayne’s memory.
