Edward Douglas LaPorte

Born in Halifax Nova Scotia on February 20, 1944, Ted (Teddy) as he was always called by family and friends alike, spent most of his teenage years growing up there before seeking a job opportunity and moving to Saint Stephen New Brunswick in 1963 to begin training as a short-order cook at the “Lobster Haven” restaurant and that training became the door that opened up to his life long career and passion in the food service industry.

A few years after moving to Saint Stephen, Ted met Sylvia P. Ross a local girl and after a brief courtship they married and in time raised their family of two children Edward (II) and Bernard Jason (BJ) there. In 2017 after 54 years of living in Saint Stephen, Ted moved from Saint Stephen New Brunswick to Amherstburg Ontario where he spent his remaining years close to his two sisters Carol and Gloria and their loving families.

Edward (Ted) will be best remembered for his gentle unassuming but generous nature and kind heart as one who loved to share all that he had including meals he prepared with family, friends and neighbours. Comparable in stature to singing legend Burl Ives, our brother’s laughter, and quick retort “go to hell” to playful teasing were commonplace sounds overheard everywhere he was present, but his joy of life, humor and laughter always took a backseat to his love of family and of course all things tasty. He will be so missed, but all who reminisce will smile as they remember the man called dad, papa, uncle Ted, brother or just plain Ted.

Edward leaves behind his former spouse and life long friend and love Sylvia, sisters Carol (Glen), Gloria (Norm), Cindy (Paul) and brother Bruce (Lona), all his grand children and great grand children whom he treasured so dearly also his many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, sisters, brother and finally his many many many friends over the years.

Ted is pre-deceased by his two children Edward and BJ whom were his stability and focus all his life, also his brother Robert, mother Jean and father Bernard all of whom he now has
rejoined.

Ted’s family wishes to thank the staff from ALSO (Assisted Living Southwestern Ontario) and Jackie Werstein from Ontario Health at Home for the many years of exceptional care and kindness they provided Ted.

Good night dear brother, we will see you again on the morrow.

Our family out of respect for Ted’s wishes will hold a small private family celebration of his life but those wishing to remember Ted in their own special way can do so by making a donation in his name to either the Saint Vincent de Paul Church of Amherstburg or the Amherstburg Food and Fellowship Mission both of which were pillars in Ted’s life in later years.
