In Loving Memory

With hearts full of love and sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, Hubert de la Bastide, predeceased by his first wife Maria, the mother of his children, loving husband of the late Brigitte de la Bastide, adored son of the late Rosita and Maurice de la Bastide, on July 4th, 2026 at the age of 91.

He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humour, gentle spirit, his unwavering love for his family, and the countless memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him.

He will be forever cherished in the hearts of his three children Peter (Rose), Linda (Brian), Andy (Sarah), his grandchildren Kevin, Kathleen, Christopher, Daniel, Colin, Lauren and Scott, his great grandchildren, Avery, Sophie, Emmett and Dylan and his sister Bianca (Saylor), and their children.

Hubert was a long time member of Divine Infant (DI) Parish and a respected Knight with Council 7873; he was also a 4th Degree Knight with Assembly 2230. Like his loyal wife Brigitte, whom he adored, Hubert contributed generously to the life of the Knights at DI and the parish.

Hubert served several years on the K of C executive as Recorder, occasional Trustee and Treasurer. A man of great integrity, Hubert led others by his example. He worked effectively and collegially with Brother Knights in carrying out numerous activities and events including K of C sponsored breakfasts (where he displayed his culinary skills), "Shrove Tuesday Suppers" in partnership with the CWL, fundraising projects in support of Arthritis research, Christmas celebrations for children of DI and various liturgical celebrations at Divine Infant.

Hubert took particular joy in assisting with the annual "Ladies Knight Dinners" to honour and recognize the wives and women, like Brigitte, who often worked "behind the scenes" and ensured their husbands' success. Among his peers, Hubert was rightly considered a true and honourable Christian gentleman, he was a man of exceptional integrity, and he treated everyone with kindness and respect, and was known for his dependability, generosity, humility and compassion.

There will be a Joint Catholic Memorial Mass to honour both Hubert and his devoted wife, Brigitte de La Bastide, at Divine Infant Church on August 20, 2026 at 11:00 am located at Divine Infant Parish, 6658 Bilberry Crescent, Orleans, ON. Those wishing to honour their memories through a memorial donation may do so to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
