Obituary Overview
Ivan Glen Brooks
Surrounded by love on August 15, 2025, Ivan (Sam) Glen Brooks passed away at the age of 88. Dad was born and raised in Sarnia to the late Cecil and Lillian Brooks. Loving husband of the late Barbara Brooks (Hockney) for 61 years. Devoted father to Glen Brooks, Julie Thrasher and Jocelyn (Oz) Penttinen and their daughter Kiira. Brother to the late Allan (Janet) Brooks and the late Bob (Kitty) Brooks. Dad started his career at The Ford trade school in Windsor and then a teacher at St. Clair Secondary School in Sarnia where he was also head of the technical department for many years. Upon retirement he worked part time at The Boys Home where he mentored young boys teaching them useful skills to use in life. Dad and mom loved going under the Bluewater bridge to have Alberts fries and watch the boats go by. He was a five-pin bowler on a men’s league for many years. Dad’s favorite pastime was travelling in the US with mom, attending glass collection conventions, collecting glass and competing to see who got the best bargain. They made lifelong friends in the U.S. Thank you to the staff at Chartwell Oak Park LaSalle for welcoming dad into retirement living where he made several great friends. He eventually moved to Season’s Royal Oak Village in LaSalle where he moved to memory care due to his dementia. Thank you to the staff there for the loving care that was given to our father during the past year. Your kindness and care for our father was amazing. Much love from Uncle Sam to the “treat fairy” Audrey and “just the driver” Mark, who drove our father to his weekly adventures with his friends at the men’s group with the Windsor Alzheimer’s Society.
Cremation has taken place. Spreading of our parents ashes, and their beloved dog Charlie Brown, will take place at a later date.
