Jeffrey John Horsley
Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
It is with broken hearts that we announce that Jeff died peacefully in the Queensway-Carleton Hospital on January 30th after a 10 month battle with colon cancer. He is the much loved son of Sue and John Horsley, brother of Pam (Joe) and favourite uncle of Nora.
Jeff was cared for by the doctors, nurses and support staff at the General Hospital and the Chemotherapy Treatment Unit, many of whom he really appreciated. In his final hours, he was at the QCH and was cared for by the incredibly compassionate staff of D3 - thank you. He was surrounded by his parents, Pam, Nora, and best friends, Tor and Nick.
Jeff was born in Toronto at St. Michael's Hospital. For this reason, he became a lifelong Maple Leafs fan and suffered abuse from friends and family for this unfortunate decision. In Ottawa, he went to Osgoode and Featherson Elementary, Hillcrest High and St. Lawrence College where he obtained his Machinist certification. He enjoyed many years of playing hockey for the Canterbury Hockey Association and Hillcrest Hawks where he made lifelong friends.
Jeff worked in various machine shops in Ottawa and joined the NRC-DFS group in 2008. He took pride in his work, didn't suffer fools lightly, yet made good friends to this day.
Outside work, Jeff was an avid, some would say obsessive, audiophile with stereo equipment buying/selling as a lifelong passion. He had a dry wit and was opinionated to say the least, however friends and family meant so much to him and always came first. In recent years, he enjoyed being in Puerto Vallarta with his parents and Aunt Lorraine (late Uncle Brian).
To honor and remember Jeff's short but memorable life, there will be a gathering at the Royal Oak, Hunt Club, on Thursday 5-Feb-2026 from 4pm to 7pm. Please join us, as valued friends, and pass this tribute to anyone we may have missed.
If you wish to honour Jeff, you are welcome to make donations to the charity of your choice, Colorectal Cancer Canada, the QCH Foundation or the Kitty Litter in Bathrooms Initiative (KLBI) of the Government of Canada.
