John Miszyn
Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory of John Miszyn
John passed peacefully in his sleep during the early morning hours of June 4 at the age of 93. Best friend and soulmate of Jean, his wife of 67 years. Beloved Dad of Jean Ann (Andrew), Andrew, and David (Lana). Cherished
Grandpa of Margaret, Rebecca, and Alex.
John was a proud and active alumnus of the University of Toronto Pharmacy Class of 5T8. After a brief stint with CIBA, John fulfilled his true calling and opened The Apothecary Shop in Scarborough. The pharmacy was unique for its time, a true dispensary style pharmacy (no chocolate bars, no makeup, no cigarettes) open every day of the year from 10 am to 1 am. When asked why he chose to work such long hours, John's answer was always the same: "Folks aren't just sick from 9-5."
In retirement, golf and volunteer work with the Scarborough Lions filled his time, as did his seemingly daily pilgrimages to Costco. A foodie before the term was trendy, John was always on the lookout for a new eating establishment, and car rides with Dad often involved a detour to visit his latest discovery.
John was a friend to all and will be missed by many, including the new friends he made at Stouffville Creek Retirement Residence this past year. Special thanks to his caregivers, Tina and Prossy, and to all the staff at Stouffville Creek.
As per John's wishes, he has been cremated. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
If you would like to honour John, a donation to the Lions Foundation of Canada Guide Dogs programme (www.dogguides.com) would be appreciated.
