Obituary Overview
Karen Power
Surrounded by the love of her family, Karen Power passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026. She is reunited with her son Jeff Power (2008) and grandson Matthew Babcock (2005). Lovingly missed by her son Marty Power, daughter Jill Babcock, daughter Michele Antaya (Paul) and daughter-in-law Kim Power. Remembered with affection by her grandchildren Carol & family, Jessi Babcock, Sara Worden, Amanda Worden, Sean Antaya (Crystal), great grandchildren Morgan Babcock, Nicholas Saul, Violet Saul and nephew Rainer Taistra (Ullrike) of Germany.
Born in Hamburg, Germany September 24, 1930, Karen lived an interesting and full life. After persevering through the turmoil of the Second World War, she moved to Canada in 1958. Though never shying from her German heritage, she was proud to be Canadian, quickly becoming a devoted hockey fan. For much of her life, Karen worked as a waitress, including at Windsor’s popular Riverside Tavern during its heyday in the 1970s. Always resourceful, Karen later operated a small business owning vending machines in Windsor’s factories for many years, doing so at a time when women entrepreneurs were less commonplace than today.
Karen loved to share stories of her youth and her family. She was a proud mother and grandmother. Nothing delighted her more than bringing treats to her grandkids and accompanying them on special outings. She also loved animals, owning numerous dogs and cats throughout her life.
Special thanks to the caregivers at Heron Terrace for your love and kindness.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life to be held in July.
