Kenneth Cooper
It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our dear brother and uncle, Kenneth (Ken) Cooper on October 5, 2025, at the age of 88, in London, Ontario. He was born in Blackburn, England to Annie and Henry Cooper on March 29, 1937. In early March, 1948, the family of five, emigrated to Canada, to Hamilton Ontario. There he received his elementary education and a 4-year BA in Mathematics from McMaster University. From there he went to O.C.E in Toronto to earn a specialist certificate to teach sr. mathematics. In 1978, Ken earned a Masters’ degree (M.A.T) in mathematics education from Western University in London, Ontario. Ken’s career was math education at all levels including adults. He felt fortunate to have had a variety of interesting and rewarding positions: an elementary and secondary school teacher, a department head, a teacher for DND in Soest, Germany, a math consultant and a secondment to teach as a professor of math education at Western. Ken was naturally athletic. He enjoyed playing several sports all his life and received awards in racquetball, squash, curling and golf. He was a long-time member and volunteer of the YMCA which began, when he was 16 years old, in the downtown branch in Hamilton, Ontario. He was a member of the Hickory Ridge Golf and C.C. He had other interests: gardening, photography, occasional painting and music. He was a life-long learner of science and technology, subscribing to several newspapers and science magazines. He was predeceased by his parents, several valued colleagues, friends and relatives.
