In Loving Memory

Kevin Kelly, 72, a cherished husband, father, step-father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on July 17, 2026, in Kanata.


Kevin was devoted to his family. He was also a man of many passions—from championing workers’ rights as a union president in Aurora to writing haiku and composing music.


Kevin’s accomplishments reflected his commitment to others and his remarkable resilience. In 1989, he received Southam’s OH&S Canada Corpus Award for his work with WHMIS and his efforts to identify and designate hazardous substances. In 2014, Kevin received a heart transplant. Just one year later, he inspired by embarking on a musical tour, performing in five cities across southern Ontario.


A gifted and imaginative writer, Kevin wrote two books, one of which was a murder-mystery tale composed entirely in haiku. He was also a dedicated songwriter whose compositions included I’m Busy and Drifter’s Lament. He loved watching the world go by from his front porch, which he captured in haiku form:


It came and lingered

On a flower for awhile

Black orange and gone


Kevin found happiness in daily walks through his local park and especially treasured time spent at family gatherings.


He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; his children, Erin (Chris) and Marianne (Kate); his step-children Martina (James), and Marla (Neil); and his cherished granddaughter, Sydney. He is also survived by his siblings, Michael (Gail), Carolyn (Randy), and Jennifer (Sam). He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Mildred “Tina” Kelly.


Kevin will be remembered for his devotion to family, his creativity, his resilience, and his unwavering love and support. His memory will live on through his family, his writing and music, and the many people whose lives he enriched.
