Leslie Check
Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
Teacher, photographer, and woodworker: these were among the passions of Leslie Check, who passed away at his residence in Fonthill, Ontario, on June 17, 2026, at the age of 91.
Leslie is survived by Marilyn, his wife of over 66 years; his daughter, Arlette (Steve); his son, Paul (Eliane); his brother, Stephen (the late Phyllis); his grandchildren, Malcolm (Kayli), Adrian (Andrea), Julia, Marie, and Andrew; his great-grandchildren, Isla and Annelise; and his nephew, Steve.
Leslie was born in Humberstone, Ontario, earned his B.A. from Waterloo College in Waterloo, Ontario, his M.A. from Niagara University in Niagara Falls, New York, and attended the Sorbonne in Paris, France. His teaching career included English, French, Spanish, and Latin, and took him to Lycée Paul Langevin in Paris, France, as well as Welland High and Centennial Secondary in Welland, Ontario. His proficiency in five languages allowed him and Marilyn to travel the world and form many lifelong friendships around the globe. He was also a charter member of the Welland Camera Club, served as its president from 1982 to 1984, held several executive positions during his time with the club, and won several awards for photography.
During his retirement if he was not travelling the world or taking pictures on photo shoots with the club he could be found in his woodworking shop making furniture for family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
