Linda Lou Hamill
Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Linda Hamill (née McAllister), surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born on December 6, 1955, in Restigouche, New Brunswick, Linda was the daughter of the late Leslie McAllister and Mary Delena McAllister (née Briggs). She was one of eighteen children and is lovingly remembered by her siblings Carl, whom she cared for devotedly for many years, Opal, Joyce, Barbara, Doris, and Roy. Linda is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Sylvia, whose unwavering friendship brought her great comfort and joy throughout her life.
A deeply loving and devoted mother, Linda will be forever missed by her children Lee Anne (Allen), Joseph, and Shelley. She was a proud grandmother to her seven treasured grandchildren - Nathaniel, Jordanne, Toryn, Colby, Leyla, Jack and Kamryn – who will dearly carry on her memory.
Linda proudly belonged to a large family and held her large extended family close. She was beloved by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives, including her nephew Aubrey (Melinda), who held a special place in her heart.
She had also built a strong community of friends who became her chosen family. To anyone who knew her, Linda was a constant source of warmth, strength, and compassion. She lovingly held many titles, including “Mama,” “Sister,” “Auntie,” and “Granny Hamill,” roles she embraced wholeheartedly. Linda brightened the lives of everyone she met, and her loss will be felt profoundly.
Linda dedicated her career to public service, beginning at age 18 and continuing until retirement. She was hardworking and respected, building lasting impressions and relationships throughout her career. Her greatest joys in life were her family, live music, dancing, travelling, and meaningful conversations with friends. She also cherished her time at Pinewood Park, where she was a beloved member of the Pinewood Park family.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the teams at the Ottawa Cancer Centre and Community Palliative Care for their care and support, as well as to Linda’s dear niece, Jennifer, and the Norton family for their kindness and strength during this time. They would also like to extend sincere appreciation to everyone who has reached out with kind words, happy memories, and support during this time.
At Linda’s request, no formal service will be held. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Linda in their own meaningful ways, by cherishing loved ones, creating memories, and sharing kindness.
In lieu of a service, for those who would like to honour Linda’s memory, memorial donations to BGC Ottawa or Camp Smitty are appreciated. The family also encourages spending time with Carl, such as a visit, phone call, or taking him out for lunch, or by giving back to your community.
We invite you to look at one of Linda’s favorite poems, The Dash by Linda Ellis, which she carried the meaning of closely. Linda made the most of “her dash”, and her spirit will carry on through all the lives she touched.
She will be forever loved and deeply missed.
