Obituary Overview

In Loving Memory

Margaret “Jane” Garrett (née McMullen), age 75, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on December 30 at Victoria Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Jane was born on September 13, 1950, in London, Ontario. In 1982, she married David Garrett, and they made their home on the family farm in Granton, where she devoted herself to raising their two children.

A devoted stay-at-home mom, Jane was the steady foundation of the family. In addition to caring for her home and children, she handled the bookkeeping and business responsibilities for both the farm and Dave’s transmission shop. She was deeply involved in her children’s lives, serving actively with the Home and School Association at

Prince Andrew Public School and never missing a school play, field trip, or sporting event.
Jane was especially known for her unwavering support of Jeff and Sherry’s passions. At the motocross track, she was famously a bundle of nerves, yet also the most enthusiastic, proud, and passionate fan imaginable. Jeff and Sherry will always cherish the early mornings driving to the track with their mom and the long, hot, dusty days spent doing what they loved together. Jane supported Jeff throughout his racing days, even while worrying every moment he was on the track. Sherry fondly remembers her mom’s encouragement at every horse and dairy 4-H show, as well as the countless drives to Western University and lunches out together, simple moments that meant so much.

Family trips to Huntsville were especially dear to Jane and became treasured traditions. In recent years, those trips grew even more special as grandchildren joined in. Jane eagerly looked forward to the Huntsville trip every summer, and it was often hard to say who was more excited, Jane or her grandkids.Jane’s greatest joy in life was her family. She leaves behind her beloved husband, David Garrett; her children, Sherry Garrett (Mark Wilder) and Jeffrey Garrett (Leah Anne Knott); and her grandchildren, Karson, Ava, Haylee, and Tucker, who were truly the light of her life, her pride and joy, and her four favorite people. She adored spending time with them and took Christmas and birthday gift shopping very seriously. Between hockey games, horse shows, and everyday milestones, there was always a new accomplishment Jane was excited to share with anyone who would listen.

Jane is also survived by her sister, Marian Kirkbride (Robert Kirkbride); her brother, Jim McMullen; her aunt, Joan Ward; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jane is now reunited in Heaven with her mother, Rita (Peg) Dunscombe; her father, Jack McMullen; “Grandpa Reg”; her sister, Sharon Zelenko (and Wayne); Barry; and her brother, Bev, all of whom were dearly loved and deeply missed.

We will miss Mom beyond words. She did so much for all of us and was the very best Nana/Grandma to her grandchildren. Her love, devotion, and sense of humour will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
