Mark Stephen Nadir
Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
Born on May 10, 1959, Mark was the second child of Sheila and Michael Nadir. From an early age, he showed a sharp mind and deep sensitivity. At five, he began playing piano—his first loves were Bach and Mozart.
Mark excelled in school, mastering every subject with curiosity and grace. He went on to study ancient languages at the University of Toronto, reading Virgil and Homer in their original Latin. Mark enjoyed travelling and explored much of North America on his bike, taking road trips, camping along the way. He was proud of his adventures along the Dempster Highway and the canyon lands of Utah especially.
In 1996, while biking through Nova Scotia in search of land, Mark met Melody—holding two chickens and smiling. It was love at first sight. Together they built a hand-hewn log home near Bancroft, Ontario, complete with solar power and a wood cookstove. They married on July 22, 2005, in Peterborough, with their young son Rowan by their side. Ethan followed soon after.
Seeking family support, they later moved to Thunder Bay to be near Melody’s parents. Their years were filled with birthday parties, camping trips, hockey games, and music. Mark passed on his love of music to both boys, along with his sense of adventure and wonder for the natural world.
Recently diagnosed with FTD with Parkinsonism, Mark chose to end his life through MAID on November 1, 2025. He is remembered as a man of integrity, intellect, and immense love—a husband, father, brother, and friend who lived and died on his own terms.
Mark leaves behind Melody, and sons Rowan (22) and Ethan (19). He is predeceased by his parents, Sheila and Michael, and survived by his brother, Jeff.
Remember Mark when walking through green spaces, visiting the shores of Lake Superior, or enjoying a meal with family.
