Mary Alice Williams
Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Williams, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the age of 73.
Mary was born on November 1, 1952, and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and loyal friend.
Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Tom (Michelle) Graham and April Beckett (Davina Dowdall), along with the many extended family members who were an important part of her life over the years. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Caitlin, Jacob, Andrew, Mathew, and Joshua, and a cherished great-grandmother to her beloved Waylon, who brought her endless joy.
She is reunited with her late brother Sid Root and her late sister, lifelong travel partner, and dear friend Violet Nash. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Kathy (Dan) Corriveau, Bob (Jane) Christie, Uncle Ronnie and Donna Root, and many nieces and nephews. Mary shared a particularly special bond with her niece, Helaina (Dave) Least. Mary will also be deeply missed by her many friends and all those whose lives she touched throughout the years.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, Mary later relocated to Oshawa with her family, then to various locations throughout the Cobourg and Port Hope area. She lived a life full of resilience, adventure, laughter, and love for the people around her. She trained in hairdressing when she was young and worked many different jobs throughout her life, including in salons, restaurants, private care, and as a PSW with the Red Cross. She was a hard worker who was always willing to help others and volunteered with various organizations throughout the years.
Mary loved to travel, especially to Cuba, enjoyed countless road trips visiting family and friends, going to the movies with friends, and was always ready for a game of bingo. She enjoyed music, especially Elvis and oldies, loved red roses, and was known for her famous thumbs-up.
Mary faced life’s challenges with strength and determination, including her diagnosis of IPF in 2016 and, in the last three years, a progressive cancer diagnosis. Through it all, she continued to care deeply for those around her and remained someone people could always count on.
Family was everything to Mary. Her grandchildren brought her endless pride and joy, and she treasured the time she spent with them and with her great-grandson, Waylon. Her warmth, humour, kindness, and unconditional love will be remembered always by everyone fortunate enough to know her.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to Hospice Peterborough or the Canadian Cancer Society.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bowmanville Legion on Sunday, June 14, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A private family interment will take place on June 15, 2026, at Mount Lawn Cemetery.
