Mrs. Marie Jessie Watkinson
Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Jessie Watkinson (née Chisholm) on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the age of 95.
Originally from River Denys, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Marie carried the warmth and spirit of her island home with her throughout her life. She was the loving wife of Brian Watkinson for 60 years, a partner who shared a lifetime of laughter, faith, and steadfast love. She was a devoted mother to Julie Watkinson (Michael) and George Watkinson (Ivy), and a cherished grandmother to Lola, who brought her endless joy.
Marie's strong Catholic faith guided her through life's joys and challenges, and she was a devoted member of the Holy Cross Parish community. Her unwavering belief, generous heart, and quiet strength inspired all who knew her. Those close to her will remember her quick wit, a sense of humour that could light up a room, her bridge enthusiasm, and her knack for telling it like it is—always with honesty, warmth, and a glint of mischief in her eye.
She was the eldest of 11 children. An adored daughter of the late Ena Mae (née MacIsaac) and Michael Chisholm. A beloved sister of Sadie Kennedy (late Donnie), Margaret Wilson (late Lyle) and Anne Fougere and was predeceased by her brothers Archie (Sally), Martin (Irene) and Michael (Roberta) and sisters Isabel, Mary, Cecelia and Irene. Marie will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at St Patrick's Home, and her caregivers in recent years—Racquel, Manette, Mariel, and Veronica,—for their compassion and dedication and for taking such loving care of her.
A Catholic mass will be held at Holy Cross Parish (685 Walkley Road, Ottawa, K1V 6R8) on Tuesday, March 10 at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the parish hall. Friends are welcome to attend at the church between 10:00-11:00 before the mass to pay their respects.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ottawa Mission.
