Owen Bruce Jones

Passed away peacefully at Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital – Palliative Unit on July 9, 2026, after a valiant battle with cancer at the age of 72. Beloved husband of Ruth Ann (nee De Block) for over 49 years. Stepfather of Trevor Howson, and Tracey (Robert) Howson. Grandfather of Kyle Freeswick (Ayat) and Breann and great granddaughter Yasmine. Brother of Murray (Lynne) and Robert (Lynn). Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Owen will be sadly missed by his fur babies Cash, Kap and George.  

Watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show was a huge influence on Owen, leading him to a career as a drummer. After marrying Ruth Ann, he gave up full-time drumming and attended university and college, which led to a 28-year career in the entertainment department at the Windsor Star. In more recent years, Owen played in various bands; Overtime Band, ABX, Nil-A-Nova Big Band and many more. He was also very active with the Windsor Blues Scene. Owen was the proud author of Music From Windsor, a study of the local music scene over several generations. 

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Oncology Department at Windsor Regional Hospital, Met Campus as well as the staff of Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital – Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate and professional care. Memorial donations may be made to the Transition to Betterness or the charity of one's choice.   

Cremation has taken place.
