Paul Edwin Markle
Obituary Overview
Paul Edwin Markle
Paul Edwin Markle passed away peacefully on July 2nd at the age of 78, with Lisa and Blake at his side.
Born on October 23, 1946, in London, Ontario to Gower Markle and Beatrix Greene (both deceased), Paul was the middle of three brothers. He leaves behind his wife Lisa Moore, his son Blake and daughter-in-law Julie, and their daughters Mia and Flora. Also mourning his loss are Blake’s mother Cheryl; his brother Ross; sisters-in-law Kerry-Ann and Karen; niece Esme, her husband Mark, and their daughter Cléophee; nephew Dana, his wife Megan, and their sons Patrick and Charlie. He was predeceased by his brother Glen.
Paul was a devoted husband and best friend to Lisa Moore for over 30 years, and a proud, loving father and grandfather.
From 1968 to 1974, Paul played professional football with the Toronto Argonauts, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and Edmonton Eskimos. Over the course of his career, he caught 92 passes for 1,099 yards and four receiving touchdowns.
Following his athletic career, Paul served as Director of Marketing for the Toronto Blue Jays from 1983 to 1997 — years that included the club’s two World Series victories in 1992 and 1993, and a milestone season in 1991 when the team became the first in Major League Baseball history to surpass four million fans in attendance.
An accomplished athlete, marketing executive, teacher, and gifted public speaker, Paul brought warmth, humour, and a positive spirit to everything he did. He was a natural connector who built lasting friendships and enriched the lives of those around him with his energy, generosity, and countless stories.
Outside of his professional life, Paul was passionate about golf, squash, cycling, marathon running, crossword puzzles, and great music — a passion he passed down to his son Blake from an early age.
As Paul wished, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, July 31st, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Lambton Golf and Country Club, 100 Scarlett Road, Toronto. All who knew him are welcome to attend.
“Swing until you’re happy on the first hole.”
