Rae Sampson
Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
Our beloved Rae passed away peacefully with her son George by her side, in the care home, in Ottawa. George was softly singing her some songs on his guitar. Rae had started to decline a couple of weeks earlier, mainly from dementia. She passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at the age of 98.
She was the loving wife of the late Theodore Sampson, and the devoted mother of George and Stephanie Sampson. Beloved sister of Effie Richard and Liz De Jong and predeceased by Steve Saliaris and Chris Saliaris. Adored daughter of the late Zoe, and the late Nikolaos Saliaris. Rae’s memory will always be cherished by her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Rae actually preferred to be called Rhea!
Our sweet beautiful Rhea has left us. Rhea was a much loved, radiant, joyful woman; an artist, an individualist, a mother, a traveler. She inspired George and Stephanie to be artists. And to be kind. “Kalo Taxidi”, as they say in Greece, dearest Rhea. Have a good journey to your resting place. We will remember your grace and personality forever.
Rhea lived a full and interesting life and to the remarkably ripe age of 98. She loved art and made beautiful paintings of the places she lived in: Greece, Canada and the Caribbean. She was also a poet, ceramicist and jeweler, and craftsperson.
A Celebration of Rhea’s life will be held at a later date.
