Raymond Denis Guillet
Obituary Overview
Raymond Denis Guillet
Raymond (Ray) Guillet passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, March 16th at the age of 85.
Ray was born in Domremy, Saskatchewan. His family moved to Ontario when he was two, settling in Schreiber, a small town on the north shore of Lake Superior. Following Teachers’ College in Thunder Bay, Ray spent his first years of teaching in the same school in Schreiber he had attended as a student. However, northern winters were not to his liking and in 1966 he moved to Windsor because it has the mildest climate in Ontario. Ray became a Vice Principal in 1975 and in 1980 he began a fifteen-year career as a Principal. During this time, he also pursued his own educational goals, obtaining a B.A. and M.Ed. from the University of Windsor and a Doctorate in Education from Wayne State University.
Ray was always an active member of the Teachers’ Federation both locally and provincially. He served in many capacities including Chief Negotiator, Grievance Officer, District President and member of the Provincial Educational Finance Committee. As a school administrator and an active Federation leader Ray was an advocate of developing the potential in others. “Educators as professionals” was always the theme of Ray’s counselling.
In retirement Ray continued to pursue life with enthusiasm, focusing on extensive travel, music studies, fitness, reading, and becoming fluent in Spanish. Ray particularly enjoyed spending the winter months in Las Vegas with family, friends and his beloved dog, Sam.
Ray’s kindness, wealth of knowledge, and sense of humour will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Margaret, to whom he was married for 58 years, as well as by his brother Lawrence (DeNeille), sister Jocelyn Reynolds (Doug), and his numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Ray was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Louise Guillet, brothers Robert (Eveline, Yvonne) and Dennis, sisters Diane, Suzanne Beaucage (Ernest), Evelyn Thrower (Gerald), and Darlene Poirier (Paul), and his in-laws William and Stella Crux.
A special thank you to the staff at Ontario Health at Home, St. Elizabeth Nursing Care, V.O.N., Paramed Services, and Hospice Palliative in Home Service for their exceptional care.
Cremation has taken place and, at Ray’s request, there will be no memorial events.
