Bob has passed away in his 90th year with his beloved wife, Jill, at his side.
Bob was born in Simcoe, Ontario. The eldest of six children. His father was a tool and die maker; his mother a banking associate as well as a boarding house proprietor.
On August 25, 1956, he married Jill Brunner in Toronto, Ontario. Jill was the sister of Gail (James Truelove) and the daughter of Harvey & Wilma Brunner.
Bob & Jill settled in Toronto, Ontario for a short time before moving to Peterborough, Ontario. Bob & Jill had 4 children.
Bob had a strong work ethic and became an I.T Professional, specializing in IBM computing technology and catering to businesses in the field of manufacturing, equity markets, and accounting. He then moved on to employment with the Peterborough School Board. He found this vocation to be immensely satisfying, and he remained with the Board until retirement.
All the while, Bob was an avid reader & outdoorsman. After retirement, he gardened, pickled, preserved and dabbled in woodworking.
Bob was able to retain and recite poetry at a moment’s notice. He enjoyed the music of Canadian- American rock band “The Band”, Neil Young as well as Jazz and Blues.
He believed in not taking something for nothing. You were able to enjoy using any of his toys if you asked to use them but were required to return them promptly when finished with them. He was always forthcoming if you asked for and needed help.
Bob lost his brother, Jerry Doyle, and his sister, Susan Doyle. He is survived by his sisters; Cynthia Kerekes (Laszlo), Catherine Connelly (Micheal) , Betty-Lynn Thompson (Dave), as well as his wife, Jill, and 4 children; Dani Gaudreau (Joseph), Kevin Doyle (Joanne), Brad Doyle, Sean Doyle (Tammy), grandchildren; Luke Gaudreau (Merideth), Beau Gaudreau (Parisa), Adam Gaudreau (Vicky), Jessica Todd (Wes), Jason Doyle (Jailyn), Hannah Doyle (Jord0n), Jordon Doyle (Victoria), Tyler Murray-Doyle, Samantha Murray-Doyle (Branden), Connor Murray-Doyle (Nicole), Jared Murray-Doyle, Blake Greives (Karlee), Danika Gelfand (John), Andrew Grieves, great grandchildren; Esher Todd, Ellena Todd, Eli Todd, Xavier Barrett, Maverick Barrett, Zayden Barrett, Beau Doyle, Lainey Doyle, James Murray-Doyle, Edmund Gelfand, Ryleigh Grieves.
A Celebration of Life for Robert will take place at “The Covered Bridge”, 565 & 551 Cooney Island Road, Douro, Ontario on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.
