Roderick Steward passed away peacefully on April 16, 2026, at the age of 85, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and an enduring passion for horses and racing.
Beloved son of the late Lisette and Rod, Roderick will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him. He is reunited with those who predeceased him, including his cherished sisters Penny (1957) and Susan (2019).
Roderick will be dearly missed by his siblings Richard (Amanda), Randy (Anne), and Wayne Hennig, as well as his many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He was a father to his sons, Rheo and Ron, who were a great source of pride and joy in his life.
Known for his strong work ethic, Roderick spent many dedicated years with Standardbred Canada, where his professionalism and commitment were deeply respected. Outside of work, his true passion shone brightest. Roderick truly loved horses — deeply and wholeheartedly. His connection to the racetrack was far more than a pastime; it was a way of life. From the early days in Hanover to countless hours spent watching, learning, and sharing stories of the sport he adored, horses and racing brought him immense joy and purpose throughout his life.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Berkshire Care Home for their kindness, compassion, and exceptional care over the past few years. Their support brought great comfort to Roderick and his loved ones.
In memory of Roderick, donations to a cancer charity would be appreciated.
Roderick will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of family, and his unwavering devotion to the horses and racing community he held so close to his heart.
