Obituary Overview

Ronald Lewis MacMillan

It is with profound sadness that the family of Ronald Lewis MacMillan announces his passing on Friday May 22, 2026, at the age of 77.

Ron was born in Windsor Ontario on December 8, 1948 to Ronald & Doris MacMillan
Beloved husband of his “Princess” Frances MacMillan (née Jeannette). They married on July 29, 1972 & celebrated 53 years together.

Loving father to Heath MacMillan (Eva) & Shannon Philpott (Gord).

Adored and cherished Papa to Gavin, Anna, Easton & Matthew.

Dear Brother to the late Vera Beneteau.

Beloved Uncle & Father figure to Mary Beth Baker (Andy) & the late Christopher Beneteau.

Great Uncle to Daniel Baker, Katie Baker (Troy) & the late Cole Baker.

Ron proudly served with the Windsor Police Service beginning in 1975 and retired as a Detective in 2008.

Throughout his distinguished career, he received numerous letters of recognition for his exceptional service, accomplishments, and dedication to the community, along with many heartfelt notes of appreciation from citizens he helped along the way. Ron will be fondly remembered by his colleagues for his integrity, unwavering dedication, and loyal friendship.

Ron had a deep love for hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. As a proud member of the Essex Hunting Retriever Club, he found tremendous joy in training the family’s beloved Labrador Retriever, Maddie, who captured his heart completely. He was incredibly proud of her achievement in becoming a Hunting Retriever Champion.
One of Ron’s greatest joys was spending time at his ”Happy Place” in Lewiston, affectionately known as “Mugwump Manor.” He often said he couldn’t wait to get there so he could “hug a tree.” Through hard work and care, he created a warm and welcoming cottage where countless family memories were made.

Ron also loved to travel. Among his most treasured adventures were many trips to Florida with the Meyers family and a memorable journey to Scotland with the Joyce family, where he proudly visited the MacMillan Clan Castle. He enjoyed sharing a glass of Jameson Irish Whiskey with friends and was a devoted fan of the Detroit Lions, faithfully supporting them through both difficult seasons and recent successes.

Nothing brought Ron more happiness than spending time with his grandchildren — whether at the cottage, in their homes, or cheering them on at their activities. Papa’s signature greeting was a loud and joyful 𝅘𝅥𝅮 Doodily, Doodily, doot, do, dooo !!!𝅘𝅥𝅮 which never failed to make the kids laugh and sing along in return.

Above all else, Ron was most proud of his family. He genuinely loved being a husband and father. His philosophy of being firm, fair, and consistent guided him throughout life and became the foundation upon which his children built their own values and lives.

After suffering a life-altering stroke in 2010, Ron was deeply grateful for the close-knit circle of friends and their families who remained by his side through the many challenges he faced in retirement. In the early stages of his stroke recovery, his brother-in-law Bob and his wife Ann, were instrumental in helping him stay focused on his therapies and helping when needed. They were a constant support. With the help of his friends Terry and Doug, he was able to continue enjoying the outdoors he loved so dearly. Together, they adapted hunting equipment so Ron could once again hunt deer, creating another proud and meaningful chapter in his life. They also modified a pontoon boat so he could return to the water and enjoy fishing once more — and the smile on his face while out on the lake said it all.

Ron’s beloved wife, Fran, cared for him with extraordinary love and devotion at home for many years. In April 2025, Ron moved into long-term care. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Riverside Place Extendicare for the compassion, kindness, and exceptional care they provided over the past year.

In accordance with Ron’s wishes, a private service and cremation have taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, if you wish a donation can be made in Ron’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
