Obituary Overview

In Loving Memory

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Roy Hammond, who left us peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the age of 82. He had the biggest heart of anyone we know and touched the lives of everyone around him with his kindness, humour, and gentle spirit.

Their beautiful love story began when Roy met Sheila, the love of his life, in high school. Together they built a wonderful life filled with love, laughter and unwavering devotion over 60 years of marriage. Roy was a devoted father to Stephanie & Joe and Scott (Debbie) and a proud and loving grandfather to Christopher & Jennifer and Emma.

He will be missed by his siblings Connie, Valerie, Penny, and Bob, and fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Iris and Gilbert Hammond, whom he loved deeply.

In addition to being deeply dedicated to his work, Roy was a gifted woodworker who made beautiful furniture in his spare time. He lovingly crafted wooden toys for his children and nieces, creating treasures that have been cherished for generations. His love for children extended beyond his own family—Roy and Sheila began their journey together by fostering children, offering them warmth, stability, and care when they needed it most.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the compassionate Nursing staff and Personal Support Workers at Crossing Bridge Extendicare for their kindness, care, and respect shown to Roy during his final days. Your support and attention to his comfort and dignity meant so much.

Roy had a long and fulfilling career as a software analyst at Statistics Canada, where he dedicated more than 30 years to his work in software architecture, programming, and system design. His passion for technology took him around the world, collaborating on international projects and supporting governments with his expertise. He truly loved his work and was deeply respected by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Because this disease took his amazing mind, donations in Roy’s memory to the Dementia Society or the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.

A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at a later date, with details to follow.
