Shannon Elizabeth Battista
Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
Battista, Shannon
With her family by her side, and surrounded by love, Shannon Battista passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 55 years of age. Beloved wife and best friend of Christopher John Bida. Devoted and loving mother of Alexa (Riley) Wayda, Allison Battista, and Andrew Battista, and proud stepmother of Connor (Jennifer) Bida. Shannon lovingly embraced her newest role of grandmother of Oaklynn Bida and welcomed into her growing family Connor’s stepchildren Melody and Maverick Turcotte. Cherished daughter of Ross and Kathryn Woon. Dear and cherished sister of Scott and Shelley Woon. She will also be remembered with love by Chris’s parents Stanley and Theresa Bida (née D’Onofrio), and his siblings Barbara Bida, and Joseph Bida (Shannon Brandt).
Shannon’s loyal companion Winston aka Scoobs, will forever miss her gentle presence.
Shannon was a kind and generous soul who gave freely of her time and heart. She was deeply involved in many Gardens of Beacon Square Boards, where her commitment, insight, and warmth left a lasting impression on all who worked with her. After many years as a Medical Transcriptionist with the Niagara Health System, where she was admired for her professionalism and kindness, Shannon discovered a new passion as an instructor at Herzing and Trillium College. Teaching became her true calling — she poured her heart into helping others learn and succeed, touching countless lives along the way.
Shannon loved to travel, especially cruising, where she found joy in the open sea, new horizons, and shared adventures with those she loved. She also had a fondness for the simple pleasures of life — she became an enthusiastic blue crab catcher in Florida,
proudly manning her own nets and finding peace and laughter along the water’s
edge.
Her children were her pride and joy — her greatest accomplishment — and she extended her love and care far beyond her own family, becoming a guiding light and “second mom” to many.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Walker House – Welland Hospice, whose compassion, care, and warmth made Shannon’s final days peaceful. They treated her as one of their own and became an integral source of support and comfort to our family through this difficult time.
In keeping with Shannon’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of Shannon's life will be held at a later date. The family kindly asks that, in lieu of flowers or other gestures, donations be made to Walker House – Welland Hospice, whose kindness and support will never be forgotten.
Her love, humour, and warmth will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
