Shirley Elizabeth Gagnon (nee Stainer)
Obituary Overview
Shirley Elizabeth Gagnon
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Shirley Elizabeth Gagnon (née Stainer) on March 17, 2026, with the love of her life by her side.
Shirley leaves behind her devoted partner of 30 years, Jerry Taylor. She is also survived by her brother Fred Stainer (Rose), as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Olive Stainer, and her brothers Larry and Ken.
Although Shirley had no children of her own, she lovingly embraced nine grandchildren as her own, along with many extended family members through her life with Jerry.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her family and friends, especially her dear friend Karen Kallis, as well as her many boating companions in both Canada and the United States.
A dedicated member of the Sun Parlour Boat Club, Shirley served on the Board of Directors for many years as Recording Secretary and Treasurer. She later took great pride in supporting Jerry during his 2012 term as Commodore, where she was fondly known as “Lady Shirley.”
Known for her strong aptitude with numbers, Shirley earned great respect for her contributions to the success of the club.
Shirley also carried on her family’s legacy by taking over Windsor Hobbies, a business established by her parents over 50 years ago. She successfully owned and operated the store for more than 30 years, earning admiration as a woman thriving in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the emergency responders and the doctors and staff at Metropolitan Hospital for their dedicated efforts and compassionate care.
