Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley, on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the age of 82. Devoted mother of Nicholas Lewis, Derek (Katina Skopelitis) and Melissa (Bernard Hurley). Cherished grandmother to Nicole, Ryan, Kali (Josh Pavely), Kaitlyn (Kasper Soldzien), Devin, Jenna and Luke. Beloved sister of Garry Lewis (Maureen) and Joyce Johnson (Gordon) and predeceased by sisters Marjorie St. Pierre, Elaine Garland and brothers Charlie Miller, Ross Lewis and John Lewis. Daughter of the late Annie Marie, and the late Edward Lewis. Beloved Aunt Shirley to many nieces and nephews. Shirley’s memory will always be cherished by her extended family, and friends.
The family would like to thank Kelly Smith for her devoted care of Shirley while she was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Special thanks as well to Margaret Embleton, who lovingly supported Shirley and the caring staff at The Glebe Long Term Care Centre which was a wonderful place for Shirley.
Shirley was a woman of fierce determination known for loving her family. Life did not always hand her an easy path. Becoming a mother at the young age of 17, she learned early on what it meant to fight for the people she loved. She met life’s challenges head-on with a trademark feisty attitude. Her hard work was driven by a deep generosity. She stepped up to become a devoted nanny for her grandchildren, a gift of time and support that made life vastly easier for her own children. When she wasn't looking after her family, she had a passion for bingo and looked for ways to play it daily. Some of her happiest moments were spent under the sun, enjoying many memorable trips to the Caribbean surrounded by her beloved grandchildren. She will be deeply missed, but her fiery spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved her.
A private celebration of life will be held by Shirley's family at Scotch Line Cemetery, 513 Upper Scotch Line, Lanark County, Ontario on July 21, 2026, at 11:00am am. Memorial donations to Alzheimer Canada at alzheimer.ca are appreciated.
