In Loving Memory...

Sylvia “Syl” Landry (née Marchesini)
Resident of Welland, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, at St. Catharines Hospital with her family by her side, after courageously battling breast cancer over the past year. She was 68 years old.

Born on May 12, 1957, in Welland, Ontario, Sylvia spent her childhood and adolescence in her beloved hometown. She attended Notre Dame College School and later pursued a career in hairdressing, eventually opening her own salon in her late twenties. Sylvia’s creativity shone through her work — she loved styling hair for friends and family and was known for her artistic touch.

A talented and imaginative soul, Sylvia had a passion for the arts — she enjoyed drawing, painting, and creating beautiful flower arrangements. Later in life, she returned to school to become a Medical Office Assistant and worked in a medical clinic before transitioning into retail management. Sylvia was an incredibly hard-working woman whose perseverance never wavered, even as she faced ongoing health challenges throughout her life.

Sylvia will be remembered as resilient, strong, and determined, but also as silly, kind, and full of love. She brought joy to every gathering with her infectious laugh and sense of humor. She cherished time spent with her family and friends, and she took great pride in cooking the traditional Italian dishes her mother taught her as a young girl.

Sylvia will be deeply missed by her loving husband Andy Landry, her children Natalie Landry and Aaron Landry, and her cherished grandson Zackary Landry.

She is also survived by her siblings Disa Sherriff (Keith) and Aroldo Marchesini (Annette); and by her in-laws Yvan Landry (Rachel), René Landry (Suzanne), Patricia Landry, and Pauline Landry. Sylvia will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews — Roseanne Pirillo (Tom), Peter Pirillo (Shanna), Tia Lennard (Jason), Serina Whyte (Talon), Brandon Marchesini (Tessa), Leo Landry (Marie), Jordan Landry (Emma), Michael Landry (Anna), Matthew Landry, Annette Oakes (Dave), Tamara Maiuri (Eli), and Angele MacTavish (Bill) — as well as by extended family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Guido and Guiliana Marchesini, brother Franco Marchesini, mother-in-law Therese Landry, brother-in-law Marcel Landry, sister-in-law Patricia Landry, brother-in-law John Pirillo, and her beloved grand pup Riley.

A Celebration of Sylvia’s Life will be held at a later date.

In memory of Sylvia, donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choice.
