Obituary Overview

Tony Lawrence

Today, with heavy hearts, we are announcing the peaceful passing of Tony Lawrence, beloved husband and best friend of Darlene Lawrence (Urquhart). He was a dear brother-in-law to Brian Urquhart (Linda), Wayne Urquhart (Wanda), Darcy Urquhart (deceased 2024) (Emerita), Edward Urquhart (deceased 2010), Martin Urquhart (Gail), Lynne Ford (Shawn), Elizabeth Lalonde (Sean), and a wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews. Though our sorrow is deep, so too is our gratitude for the life he lived and the love he shared with all of us. Tony was a man defined by service, strength, and kindness. In his early years, he answered the call to serve his country with pride as a member of the Canadian Army, 1st Battalion, The Canadian Guards, from 1962 to 1965. During that time, he also served with the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces in Cyprus in 1963-64, helping others with compassion to people in need. He was also a proud retiree of the Windsor Essex EMS family, where he dedicated countless hours to caring for strangers in their most vulnerable moments. Tony lived his life with courage, duty, and an unwavering sense of responsibility. But beyond his uniforms and titles, Tony was a wonderful husband, a loving brother-in-law, a proud uncle, and a loyal friend. For 53 years, he shared his life with Darlene, building a marriage rooted in love and partnership. Tony’s joys were simple and fun. In his younger years, he played baseball, bowled, spent time on his boat, and had a passion for fishing. He loved travelling with Darlene, and they had many fun adventures together. He found happiness in nature, in laughter, and enjoyed playing euchre with his family. Tony lived a good life. What we will remember most about Tony is his generosity of spirit. He was steady, reliable, a man who could be counted on. He carried himself with humility, never asking for praise, even though he deserved it. And he gave freely, in a way that made each of us feel supported and valued. Today, as we say goodbye, we also say thank you, Tony, for your service, your kindness, your humour, and your heart. Thank you for the memories, the stories, and the love you shared so generously. Our lives are richer for having known you, and the world is better for the life you lived. May you rest in peace, Tony. We will miss you deeply, and we will carry your spirit with us always. As per Tony’s wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place. His internment will be at Heavenly Rest Cemetery at a later date. If you so desire, donations may be made in Tony’s memory to Community Living Windsor.
