BARACETTI, Valentino “Poncho”- Passed away peacefully after his courageous battle with cancer, at the Welland Hospital on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at the age of 91. He has been reunited with his beloved wife Santina (2020) who shared 64 years of marriage. Loving and cherished father of Enrico and Michael (Marnie). Proud grandfather of Leanne (Jon), Michael (Jessica) and Dylan and great-grandfather of Olivia, Charlotte and Avery. Fondly remembered by his former daughters-in-law Denise and Ellen. Also survived by his sister Maria Kuhar (late Louie) and many cousins in Italy and Argentina. Predeceased by his parents David and Olive (Stringaro) Baracetti, parents-in-law Salvatorre and Rachel LaTorre, his brother-in-law Michael LaTorre and his brother Enrico (Janet) Baracetti.
Born in Rivolto-Udine, Italy on February 9, 1935. Poncho retired from Atlas Steels after 35 years of dedicated service. Devoted to his wife, sons, and family, he will be remembered for his hard work, kindness, and deep love for those closest to him. He treasured many special memories, including attending car races, sharing his lifelong hobby of stamp collecting with Enrico, and coaching Michael in his various sports. He also enjoyed many fishing adventures up North. Poncho’s love of stamp collecting stayed with him throughout his life. In retirement, golf became a daily passion, whether he was playing or watching, often accompanied by his wife. He watched stock car races at Merrittville Speedway Saturday nights and mornings he enjoyed coffee at the Seaway Mall with his best friend Jim Wiley and their friends. He visited his mother every night at the E.C.U in Welland. After visiting her, he went to accompany his Italian friends at Villa de Rose where he resided himself for two years. Poncho leaves behind many fond memories for all who crossed his path in life. If so desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
