Winston H Mahatoo
Close in memory every day, and especially at Christmastime, Winston's favourite holiday season. At Christmas, Winston and wife Astrid welcomed family, friends, and those who were otherwise alone during the holidays. The house was filled with wonderful scents of Astrid's cooking and baking as well as the beautiful music of Winston's Christmas records.
Winston was the DJ at these gatherings. With a maestro's care, he made sure joyful songs of the season continuously played, warming everyone around the table. Winston had a fine singing voice. Just for our family, he sang Christmas classics to us each year in his warm, melodious baritone. Sadly, it was during Christmastime years later that Winston fell victim to COVID-19 while in long term care. Debilitating lasting effects in addition to a systemic loss of care decimated his good health and preceded his passing. We never forget the system that failed Winston and those who left him in it. We always remember and quietly celebrate what this special season meant to him.
